The hearth of the home lies in the living room. A collection of dark wood Chinese furniture is neatly arranged adjacent to a neat light-grey linen laminate-cladded feature wall and a veil-like champange powder-coated aluminium trellis which masks a timber staircase beyond. An intricate patterned silk carpet co-exists with the cream cushions of the sofa and a bonsai plant to complete a contemporary Chinese picturesque interior scene. A dark wood coffeshop table sits in the entrance vestibule, welcoming guests with fresh flowers, providing a reminder that the Chinese-ness of this house, comes with a twist of Nanyang.
The house was under construction when we were engaged to work on the interior design. The brief was for us to create a comfortable, cosy, interior which is works with the architecture. The client was also into Buddhism, meditation, and chinese culture and wanted the home to reflect these elements.
