THE DISTINCTIVE TRIANGULAR HOUSE IN CLARO
Located on a sloping site in Claro, Switzerland, LOKOMOTIV.archs office LKMV has constructed a small house that harmonizes with the complex terrain. The design of the building showcases a unique structural character that skillfully balances openness and the privacy desired by its residents. Embracing an irregularly shaped plot of land with a pronounced central depression and adhering to the area's geomorphology, the house cleverly utilizes the topography while meeting setback requirements. This results in a spacious underground floor that seamlessly integrates with the road, and an elevated 'night floor' that commands attention within the overall architectural scheme.
RESPONDING TO PRIVACY AND SPACE NEEDS
In response to the client's request for privacy and a generous carport, LOKOMOTIV.archs office LKMV developed an initial concept focused on optimizing the main floor's lightness and reinforcing the upper floor. The entire structure is suspended from the primary beam wall, with a triangular shape emerging as the optimal solution for the structural system. The cantilevered corner plays a vital role in distributing forces, while a bridge-like blind wall connects the two livable floors and partially covered outdoor areas, acting as a unifying element.
LOKOMOTIV.ARCHS' UNCONVENTIONAL DESIGN
The triangular site, positioned in an east-west direction, is accessible from the east and is bordered by a public road along its southern edge. In a residential area dominated by traditional rustic dwellings, this contemporary architecture stands out with its distinctive presence. Rising prominently across three levels, the new building's robust volume is a direct response to building regulations. The three levels are crowned by a single sloping roof, and a small southern canopy provides additional shelter for summer days.
AN INNOVATIVE APPROACH TO GEOMORPHOLOGICAL DESIGN
The Swiss house crafted by LOKOMOTIV.archs office LKMV showcases an innovative approach to integrating the natural topography of the site with the functional needs of its inhabitants. With its striking triangular form, prominent structural elements, and careful attention to privacy and openness, it serves as a remarkable example of architecture that both learns from and contrasts its natural surroundings.
