gt_2P developed this project for the new Coco Pacheco’s restaurant “Aquí está Coco”, in a traditional neighborhood of Santiago de Chile.
This project, under the supervision of the interiors architect Gino Falcone, has two assignments, a shelf for the central room of the restaurant and a wine cellar for reserve wines. Both of them have gone along with the general theme of the restaurant, the sea, the nature and traditions.
The “Whale shelf” is a volumetric piece with drawers located randomly in the vertical in relation to the curved existing structure inside the restaurant. It is based on a sectioned volume to create stripes that are subdivided according to number of spaces needed by the client. Together with the existing crystal structure, this shelf accomplishes the accurate appearance for this Peruvian seafood restaurant.
In the case of the wine cellar, there is a set of seven integrated racks that generates the “Root Shelves”. Each was created from the DNA of the “Voro” family, a rule that defines an edge and points that determine the internal subdivision based on an algorithm for Voronoi tessellation.
For this product, gt_2P creates a root-shaped grid, taking features observed in roots, like the resultant texture of a cut on them. It was the source to make individual spaces for 500 bottles, and some ornamental spaces, too. All of them have different sizes according to various diameters of bottles. Finally, a number was assigned to each box, so the sommelier can know and control the stored wines. This solves the dilemma of creating a tidy shelf that evokes the appearance of disorder and distortion of the roots.
gt_2P, a Chilean parametric design and digital fabrication studio, will be present at this year’s Salone Satellite in Milan featuring some of their products based on the concept of "DNA creation".
