As part of a series of major projects in the city centre, the Colisée project is part of the regeneration of the lower town, which was initiated by the construction of the Rive Gauche shopping centre. The aim of the project is to redevelop certain areas of the district that have been left derelict over the years, and to initiate a process of regeneration in the area, providing quality housing and complementing the retail offer.

The aim is to restore the area's identity, conviviality and socio-economic appeal, so that it can once again become as vibrant as it was 30 years ago... The idea is to dedicate as much of the ground floor as possible to shops and to limit access to the residential units. This principle gave rise to the idea of recreating a group of flats on the commercial base, built around a central patio.

This social role remains essential to guarantee a dynamic and fulfilling living environment for every resident.

The second project is based around a link between rue de Marchienne and rue du Collège. The urban planning challenge lies in perpetuating the numerous commercial passageways in the town centre (Passage de la Bourse, Place Saint-Fiacre, Galerie Bernard, etc.). This passageway becomes the commercial link between Rive Gauche and rue de Marchienne, reinforcing the pedestrian network that is developing around the Sambre and bringing together a mixed group of shops and housing against the backdrop of the Coliseum, Charleroi's legendary former concert hall...
