Make has been chosen to develop an urban design framework for College Green in Croydon that fulfils the vision of rich, high-quality and varied public realm and a well connected pedestrian network. Croydon is set for major transformation, backed by Mayoral policy which has identified the area as key to delivering Outer London’s potential.
The proposals, designed in collaboration with Gehl Architects, put people and the way they interact at the very heart of the design process so that the final spaces and buildings will be suitable for those who will ultimately use them. Developed through extensive research and engagement with the public, stakeholders and their consultants, our objective is to create an inclusive and welcoming area that brings the community together and is inviting to a wide range of user groups.
Our integrated public realm strategy creates a pedestrian-friendly, human-scale environment in an isolated area currently disconnected by roads and railway lines.Building upon Croydon’s current infrastructure and enhancing the existing uses of the site, a ‘Learning and Cultural Area’ will be developed comprising a mixture of educational, residential, retail, commercial and leisure uses.
College Green forms the heart of this area and has been redesigned and reconnected so it will become a regional destination that supports a wide variety of arts, music and cultural events in conjunction with Croydon College and Fairfield Halls.
