Share your ideas about climate with the COP21 negotiators. Enter the COPBox and share your ideas on climate change with the negotiators from the 195 countries participating in the COP21, the 21st United Nations Conference on Climate.
Climate change is everyone’s concern and without involvement from citizens, the international negotiations which will take place during the 21st United Nations Conference On Climate Change (COP21) won’t come to a successful conclusion. In order to highlight citizen determination and carry its voice over to decision-makers, the COAL Art and Environment Association and the LEMOAL&LEMOAL Architecture Agency imagined the COPBox, a participatory unit designed to collect the word of citizens as well as to raise awareness about the stakes of climate change.
Placed in public areas, this microarchitecture is equipped with a digital application which enables each citizen to share his ideas on climate change by recording a personal video message intended for the negotiators of the 195 countries gathered during the COP21. Both unique and connected through the identity of the COPBox, those messages symbolise the collective and international mobilisation in favor of the environment. They are freely broadcast on social networks, on the ArtCOP21 website and in the COP21 Cultural Calendar, while also sent to the COP21 secretary-general. A selection of the best messages will be projected on the official site of the COP21, in Le Bourget.
FORM AND USE The COPBox is a microarchitecture made of standard tri-fold wooden panels that allow substantial savings on materials and production time. Its outside signage, imagined by Camping Design, invites the passer-by in. Inside, a tablet is integrated into the construction and serves as both a digital interface and a camera. After a brief registration process, each participant has 60 seconds to set out his ideas. Once the recording is complete, he can review his video, approve it or start again. By approving it, he receives it at his email address and is then able to broadcast it on social networks #COPBOX#COP21.
The CopBox application, developed by Onatis, will soon be available on the Ipadstore, which will allow citizens to leave messages from all over the world. Every video is reviewed by a moderator and broadcast on the ArtCOP21 website, the COP21 Cultural Calendar. The COPBox and its many messages collected throughout the year will lead to a major installation during the COP21.
A MOBILE COPBOX The COPBox is launched on the banks of the Seine on July 11th during the ArtCOP21 festival and will remain there until August 27th. As a mobile installation, it will then travel across ten or so cultural and institutional places, in both Paris and the provinces, until it joins the Civil Society village, in Le Bourget, during the COP21.
The CopBox is one of the five actions of ArtCOP21, the Cultural Calendar of the COP21. ArtCOP21 is a large program of artistic actions and citizen mobilisation initiated by the COAL Art and Environment Association and its English-speaking counterpart Cape Farewell. At the end of the day, more than a hundred cultural operators and associations, both french and international, who have gathered the best projects involving art and sustainable growth around the world, will unprecedentedly collaborate during the COP21.
Five types of actions make up ArtCOP21 : - A special edition of the COAL Art and Environment Award and its international call for proposals on climate change, which has gathered more than 350 artistic projects on climate and oceans - A digital guide of the Paris Climate 2015 Cultural Calendar which offers an artistic journey on the theme of climate - Five monumental artistic and participatory installations in public areas, including the COPBox - The Creative Parts Conference - A professional workshop for a better integration of sustainable growth into the cultural sphere, and a space for cultural operators to meet and debate, in the Gaité Lyrique, during the whole of the COP21.
