The new Corinthians Stadium is located in Itaquera, a district which belongs to the metropolis of São Paulo.

The opening game of the 2014 FIFA Football World Cup in Brazil was played in this state-of-the-art stadium, which counts 65,000 seats in total. Since 2014, the stadium has been used as the regular play location of the football club Corinthians as well as for bigger events; it includes a convention centre and shopping facilities.

From a very early stage Werner Sobek was an integral part of the design team and provided the structural engineering for the wide-spanning roof structure as well as for the stands made of prefabricated concrete elements.

In 2015 the project received an “Outstanding Achievement Award” from IFAI (Industrial Fabrics Association International) 13-Nov-2015

Werner Sobek has been part of the project from the early design phases and is now responsible for the services such as the design of the wide-spanning roof structure, the stands made of prefabri- cated concrete elements (incl. service rooms), and the huge glass facade incl. sun shade.
