A new architectural landmark is rising above Vienna: Danubeflats, Austria’s tallest residential tower, stands out prominently in the city’s evolving skyline at 180 meters and 48 stories. The Vienna-based architecture and design firm Labvert, led by Stephan Vary, is responsible for designing the building’s public and shared spaces. The studio’s long-standing clients include international luxury brands such as Dior, Bulgari, and Hennessy.
An evocative interior concept was conceived for the prestigious Danubeflats, drawing inspiration from its proximity to the Danube and complementing the tower’s distinctive architecture from within. With a flowing, organic design language, Labvert translates the movement of water into space, form, and material – from the lobby to the Members’ Club and the Executive Lounge on the 32nd floor.
As diverse as the course of the river itself, the spaces together create a coherent architectural narrative in which the Danube serves not only as a geographical reference but also as a conceptual source of inspiration. It defines the rhythm, materiality, and formal expression of the entire residential tower—atribute to the river that has shaped Vienna for centuries.
Dive into another world: In the expansive lobby, the aquatic narrative comes to life through oversized rings of light suspended overhead evoking droplets falling onto a water surface. The circular motif continues in a sculptural mezzanine designed as a free-floating landing stage. With its reflective tombac-metalunderside, this intermediary level becomes both a captivating focal point and a bold architectural statement.
Gentle curves extend to the concierge desk and the inviting waiting area, where sinuous emerald-green sofas merge with the floor tiles, creating a playful illusion of islands emerging from water. This fluid spatial language continues to the mailroom, where rounded furnishing and custom-made lamps evoke the delicate motion of birds in flight.
Located on the 4th floor, the Members’ Club offers a refined setting for wellness and social gatherings. This thoughtfully designed recreational space features a state-of-the-art gym, a yoga room, and a spa area with two saunas and an infrared cabin. A highlight of the club is its elegant cocktail bar, which opens onto a spacious veranda with outdoor seating, complemented by a heated infinity pool.
The club’s curved layout—accentuated by floor-to-ceiling windows and slidingglass doors—frames breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding urbanlandscape. Material choices such as oak flooring, green marble, and reflective copper accents reinforce the organic theme while enhancing the club’s sensory richness. An integrated business lounge provides a quieter area for work and meetings.
On the 12th floor, the Event Lounge continues the aquatic motif through a palette of cool blues and soft grays. Above the fully equipped cook-and-chill area, the ceiling features an array of irregular mirrors that resemble sunlight dancing on water, adding depth and rhythm while animating the space with ever-changing reflections.
The Executive Lounge on the 32nd floor offers what is currently Vienna’s most exclusive view. Here, the atmosphere shifts to a warm, contemplative mood: dark oak, brass accents, golden mirror elements, and carpets specially designed by Labvert combine to create the character of a private club above the city rooftops. A sculpted bar, clad in golden mirror slats and subtly extended by a ripple-like pattern, fuses ornament with form. A curved, glass-enclosed patio completes the composition, providing an intimate architectural gesture that gently blurs the boundary between interior and skyline.
