Currently one of the central themes in the architectural debate in the city of Guadalajara (Mx) is the redensification of its urban center. If that tissue has been characterized throughout history by its horizontal urban morphology and its productive vocation, today it seems to be the scene of a process of socio-urban deterioration manifest in its abandonment and in the increase of insecurity.
In front of this complex image, we could ask ourselves what could be the appropriate architectural strategies to a responsible and respectful urban redensification process.
Revitalizing this fabric without falling into the construction of an isolated and self-referential architectural object calls for an understanding of all those elements and dynamics that have structured it throughout history. Within this practical philosophy we could place the "Del Patio Apartamentos" building, one of the first works of the ESTUDIO HIDALGO office.
Located in a corner plot of just over 1000 m2 this set has 20 apartments distributed in 4 levels, which mostly achieve cross ventilation and double views (both the city and the interior). Although we could stop at a more detailed spatial analysis of their typologies, we understand that the type of discourse that we are carrying out has much more interest in the analysis of its more urban elements: access and the patio. Positioned in the corner, the access is forwarded to the building, configuring a small covered terrace that, on the one hand, is the beginning of a "promenade architecturale" and welcomes its inhabitants, on the other, since it extends the sidewalks, it is a true gift to the city. Once entered the set, the architectural tour takes us to the large central courtyard.
This, designed and designed as a neutral and flexible board is not simply a distribution space, but rather a meeting place between neighbors, a device for generating social relationships, a catalyst for the sense of community and possibly a playful space.
Definitely if the architecture begins to move towards a rethinking of the relationship housing city, "the patio apartments" shows the will, the possibility and the feasibility of an inclusive redensification, domestic, and respectful of the environment of our cities.
