Mediavaert has been completed: the new timber-hybrid headquarters of DPG Media Nederland in Amsterdam-Duivendrecht. The innovative media hub on the Van der Madeweg will be the home base for various newspapers, magazines and radio stations, including de Volkskrant, Trouw, Parool, Qmusic, Joe and NU.nl. With a size of 44,700 m2, the building is one of the largest wood-hybrid offices in Europe.
Custom-made headquarters
The new headquarters was tailor-made for DPG Media. Featuring 31,600 m² of office floor space, in addition to flexible workplaces, brainstorming areas, radio and recording studios, restaurants, a coffee bar and an event space on the quay of the Duivendrechtsevaart. An interaction between voids and shared spaces ensures an open character and plenty of daylight. Green in, on and around the building create a pleasant working environment that is of great benefit to the well-being and health of the users.
Acceleration
Mediavaert is located in the emerging area Werkstad OverAmstel, where the arrival of DPG Media is accelerating the transition from a classic business park to a versatile area. Blue-green ceramic facade panels from Koninklijke Tichelaar from Makkum and an organic shape characterize the striking building on the waterfront. The soft design language of Team V Architecture introduces a completely new atmosphere in the industrial context of the current environment. The landscape, designed by Delva, surrounds the building with greenery.
Future-ready
The office has exceptionally low CO₂ emissions in relation to its size, thanks to the use of no less than 7,000 m³ of timber, the powerful design and the use of avanced technologies. The project received a high BREEAM certification, with an Excellent score. The choice for sustainability requires innovation and creativity – values that fit well with the character of DPG Media.
“This new media building for DPG Media shows that you can create a very special building with a sustainable timber construction: focused on health, green, and daylight. In this case, the choice for a timber-hybrid construction contributes to a sustainable building, a faster construction period and a special, healthy, comfortable workplace. It is therefore an extremely good example of integral sustainability.” - Do Janne Vermeulen, architect/director of Team V Architecture
“With this project we have achieved a high level of sustainability, well-being and innovation, and we are extremely proud of what we have achieved. Mediavaert can rightly be called an office of the future. We hope to inspire others to make the choice for sustainability, so that timber-hybrid construction on this scale will no longer be the exception, but the norm.” - Dirk Dekker, co-founder and owner of Being
