A colourful, lively neighbourhood with lots of green – such is the vision for the new residential development in the south of Wiener Neustadt. Built on the site of the old football stadium, this modern urban quarter comprises eight building plots divided between three developers and five architectural offices. “Ein Viertel Grün” is a well thought-out mix of high and low buildings with compact structures surrounded by a bounty of green space, offering apartments of a variety of types and sizes, either subsidised or privately financed. Construction is due to take place from 2021 -2024.
Diversity with a view
Around 160 of a total of 500 residential units are being built by Architects Collective in ten buildings on four building plots. The colour scheme of these four construction sites, which is tailored to the surroundings, features earthy sand and sky blue with accents of grey, yellow and pink, emphasising the diversity of the residential complex as well as the numerous building types. All flats have either spacious private gardens on the ground floor or balconies or loggias with views – thanks to a special layout, some even have views in three directions.
At building plot 8, developed by EGW, two residential buildings are being constructed. An elongated, angled pergola house faces the small stream in the north-west, and the 3- and 4-room apartments have a pergola that overlooks the playground in the centre of the construction site. The pergola is accessed by a lift and two single-flight staircases. The second building, a tower block, is a six-storey building with four two- and three-room apartments per floor. Each apartment has a panoramic window in the living room and a loggia at the corner of the building for exciting views and vistas. The entrance area is preceded by an arcade facing the meeting zone, from which the bicycle storage room, rubbish room and laundry room are also accessible. The fitness room on the ground floor is available to all residents and is accessed via the green area with a playground in the centre of the building site. The colour scheme of the two buildings features earthy beige tones with yellow accents and salmon-coloured highlights in the pergola area and arcade. A total of 39 residential units with a usable living space of 2,800 m² are being built here.
Green space and mobility concept
A newly created public park stretches across the development, while driveways and parking are located underground. A kindergarten and information point are centrally located, whereas playgrounds and meeting points are dotted between the buildings. Car sharing facilities, bike paths and easy access to public transport complete the mobility concept and encourage quiet and green living.
