The exhibition design for "Em Campo" is articulated through five main elements: the floor, the wall, the pillars, the grid, and the audiovisual equipment associated with the furniture.
The Floor
A thick surface of grey bouclé carpet covers the original orange vinyl flooring in order to neutralize the visual landscape. This alteration highlights the color photographs through contrast and homogenizes the black-and-white prints, while improving the gallery's sound quality by dampening noise in an environment of smooth, hard surfaces.
The Wall
A 17-meter-long white wall contributes to the expansion of the exhibition area, designed to house 65 prints. With its starting point set back 6 meters from the entrance, aiming to reveal the existing polycarbonate side panel, the structure stands out from the original grey-painted masonry and creates niches to accommodate a specific series of images. Built with a rational assembly system that combines MDF, aluminum, and nylon, the set is stabilized by pressure-fitted aluminum profiles that function as updated doubles of the gallery's original concrete pillars—which, instead of casting shadows, produce shine and reflections.
The Pillars
Respecting the 1.55-meter (center-to-center) modulation of the original concrete pillars, a virtual grid dictates the positioning of five vertical aluminum and nylon supports, 2.7 meters high, freestanding in the gallery's central space. An "H-shaped" structure displays 36 portraits on its two sides, while three independent pillars hold color photographs. Viewed in plan, this arrangement references the tactical positioning of a sports team.
The Grid
A structural system of steel cables anchored to the perimeter stabilizes the freestanding pillars, reviving modern architecture solutions as seen in projects by Lina Bo Bardi and Franco Albini. This suspended mesh supports 21 tubular lamps attached at 45-degree angles, bringing scale and a cartographic dimension to the space. A white metallic crossbar—designed with the exact diameter of football goalposts—interrupts the grid near the window frames and, alongside small spotlights, introduces figurative elements to the geometric and abstract composition.
Prints, Furniture, and Audiovisual Equipment
The prints explore the space by spreading across walls and glass using different textures and sizes, including methacrylate, fine art applied to ACM, and wallpaper. The furniture, made with aluminum profiles identical to those of the exhibition design and covered with HDPE surfaces, invites visitors to linger. An LED panel, angled at 45 degrees to break the room's orthogonality, displays a 4:3 video using the screen's own modular cabinets as a contemporary ready-made elevation structure. Finally, the sound installation utilizes the new wall's initial setback to house the first three speakers, distributing the remaining speakers and the subwoofer along its length, ensuring an immersive, spatial stereo experience throughout the entire gallery.
