Ernst & Young Event Hall in Torre Titania, Madrid

Torre Titania, also known as Torre Azca, has already become one of the emblematic buildings of Madrid's financial district. Located on the Paseo de la Castellana, this architecture built on the remains of the Windsor Tower (destroyed by fire in 2005) houses a shopping center and office space on a total of 27 floors rising 103.7m above the ground. For one of its main spaces - the events and meeting room - technical construction solutions have been developed that have required a detailed and specialized study in order to meet the needs of a technical program that is far from simple.

Located in the upper area of the building, this meeting and event room of the consulting firm Ernst&Young, is designed by the Projects department of El Corte Inglés. The atmospheric conditions of temperature and humidity are variable in the room, hence our choice of materials.

Our team has been in charge of the technical advice and execution of this complex spatial geometry formed by a three-dimensional black lacquered wood cladding, which surrounds the staircase of the building's internal installations. Three flat equilateral triangles divided into three and three pyramids of equilateral base and various heights are mixed as in a game to create an interesting wooden volumetry, which is embraced by a conical cladding.

This conical surface, elevated 3 meters above the occupancy plane, is made of GUBIA BSP38 C-v bamboo slats in 70x38mm sections. As a base for this cladding, the technical department of Grupo GUBIA has manufactured 84 wooden trusses classified by levels in different radius and curvatures.

Due to the variable atmospheric conditions in temperature and humidity of the room, GUBIA recommended the use of bamboo (a very stable and warm material at the same time) and WBP phenolic plywood boards finished in black lacquer to create the central volumetry. It also enhances the brightness of the room and brings warmth to a space that lends itself to socializing. The light, which enters naturally through the room's perimeter glazing, creates a striking spectacle of light and shadow on the inclined planes of the central sculpture.

Another of the unique technical solutions that characterize this event hall is its flooring. Given the high daily traffic, POLYGROUP, an international company based in Seville and manufacturer of high quality raised floors, has contributed its experience to the configuration of an innovative and stable flooring system, called GAMAFLOR FULL STEEL; a technology that only POLYGROUP manufactures in Europe and which has recently obtained the Leed Gold classification that provides Leed credits to the building. This type of access floor is versatile, resistant to humidity and high load-bearing capacity, fire-resistant and also offers high acoustic absorption.
