Located along Váci út in Northern Pest, the building site is situated in a diverse and bustling neighborhood. The dense industrial fabric of the rust zone has gradually changed over the past decades. As a result of preservation, renovation and supplementation, the underutilized buildings of the former industrial area now house the headquarters of the building’s contractor and construction partners. The revitalization process consisted of a partial addition to the building and the complete remodeling of the vertical circulation and installation systems.
Formerly a traffic-loaded zone, the internal courtyard has become a green and car-free garden embracing the external seating and relaxation areas of the ground floor café and event hall, providing a location for smaller-scale community events as well.
The key aim of the design concept was to preserve and complement the existing buildings through a contemporary and progressive approach: the intervention included the insertion of a new element that winds around the existing structure to integrate old and new building segments and interconnect the spaces erected in different building periods in a transparent manner.
By embracing the values, scale and traditions of the rust zone, the intervention becomes a metamorphosis organically rooted in the diverse character of its environment: in addition to becoming part of the dynamic change and revitalization taking place in the area, it captures the traces of its spontaneous development.
