In a low density neighbourhood, the challenge of building attached houses is presented to us. Scale towards urban space was one of the premises of the project.

By means of central courtyard, keeping several existing palm trees, the houses are organized in two blocks. On the front, supported on a bare concrete structure with inverted beams, six two-story houses are developed with balconies and individual grills. This block’s wall-free ground floor allows for all twelve roofed parking spaces. Access to all six front houses is through three volumes, each of them also containing grills, storage areas and engine rooms.

The rear block is formed by six three-story houses, each of them with their own garden and grills. The central courtyard not only makes way to these rear houses, but also solves kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom ventilation.

Supporting walls were chosen as a constructive system, allowing the use of 3,8m length precast concrete hollow core slabs, without any intermediate support. Window openings follow the same structural reasoning, maximizing sunlight entry in non-supporting faces.

The façade’s scale is achieved by means of three planes. The first plane is composed by a self-supporting wood fence and two metal gates for pedestrian and vehicle access. Second plane conformed by three white brick volumes that interrupt the concrete beam supporting the structure above parking spaces. A series of horizontal steel beams not only solves the railing, but also confines balance to the verticality of the previous elements. Finally, more than 5m away from the site’s front line, the front houses’ two-story volume appears.
