This is a renovation project in east Tokyo. Client desired open lifestyle where they could feel the presence of a family, in a compact living environment where they could interact with nature such a wind and sunlight. We divided the area with semi-transparent boundaries, such a glass door and switching floor finishes, centered around the pillar, and take over existing rice field-shaped plan.
The counter along the wall directs your consciousness to outward like an arrow. We arranged the height of counter and facilities so that activities would change according to the gradation of light. The balcony side where high-quality light shines in are like Engawa (Japanese wood deck) where you can quietly relax.
The materials that have slight unevenness, the Japanese paper wall, tile in kitchen and lauan coated with persimmon juice, transmit texture of light.
We create the situation where outside is next to you no matter where you are, by opening the window that allow you to see balcony from entrance and washroom.
It captured abstract nature of central city with certainty and rebuild new relationship with human.
Small house where the life is lived with change of seasons.
