The brief for this project was to propose a redesign and refurbishment of a Grade II. The project was set to commence in October/November 2020 and completed in 2023, with a few final spaces which were completed in 2024.
The clients wanted a forever home that was reflecting the beauty of the building and its surroundings. The project was largely affected by Covid both in submission of the proposed structural changes to the council and contractural works. Also, the owners decided to execute the project in 3 Stages, so all the documents and drawings have been issued three times, each time focusing on 1 stage. We started with the kitchen, utility room and the snug, then continued to the main house designing the main entrance, cloakroom, dining room, formal lounge, 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The last stage was the cinema room, entrance to that wing of the house and the cloakroom.
The style of the space is transitional, with a contemporary take on classic design. Both clients favour colour, texture, and pattern, and had a dislike for white aside from woodwork. They are inspired by the colours of Cornwall, particularly blues and greens which we set the palette to be.
We chose materials that were sympathetic to the renovation, sustainable and durable. Bespoke joinery throughout the house uses painted wood and MDF but also natural oak and natural walnut.
In this idyllic cosy country heritage home, I wanted to create an atmosphere of quiet luxury, sophistication rooted in the quality materials with well thought through design elements
