Entering the courtyard via the driveway, the pool is mostly hidden from view due to a masonry screen wall that doubles as a water feature wall (showcasing fifteen, Randy Angell Designs custom fabricated stainless steel water scuppers) and as a two-way linear fireplace. The fireplace feature is protected from the wind on the driveway side by an acrylic shield, making the fire enjoayble while sitting in the raised, perimeter overflow spa on the opposite side.
Hartstone Tile concrete pavers, wrapped and separated by lush, synthetic turf, lead you around the ledger-stone clad feature wall to the pool area. Looking across the polished Primerastone finished pool, you'll notice a raised "KnotWood" deck on the opposite side, complete with chaise loungers and flanked on either side by masonry columns; both adorned with gas-burning fire feature bowls on top. Underneath that cantilevered deck, is a hidden Sheer Curtain waterfall which veils a shaded grotto bench-seating area. Following the walkway to the right between the pool and the indoor/outdoor room addition, you'll arrive at the all-glass-tile Wetdeck-style pool entry where two chaise Ledge Loungers await, inviting you to take a refreshing seat in 6" of water.
Just behind them are a series of floating stepper pads, finished with custom slabs of Hartstone concrete, which match the surrounding decking, and hover just above the pool's waterline. Crossing them on foot takes you to the crown jewel of this backyard, which is the sunken fire pit gathering space. Before stepping down into the fire pit seating area, you'll notice a continuance of the mosaic tile in the surrounding fountain areas on both sides, each with five bubbler water features, providing calming sounds and movement. Inside the seating space, all benches and wall caps are again lined with Hartstone concrete pavers, and the vertical wall faces are clad with grey ledger-stone.
A gas-burning fire pit sits centered both within the surrounding built-in bench seating area, and centered just beneath the picture frame wall opening above it. This large open window frames a beautiful, Desert Modern landscaping installation, carefully planned and installed by Jason Osterberger Designs The chop-face limestone block backdrop wall, which features two more tall, custom, RandyAngell Designs stainless steel scuppers, extends upward hiding the supporting posts for the overhead steel awning.
This one-of-a-kind semi-shade awning features two I-beams extending well beyond the fire pit area, turning, and then diving down right into the wetdeck. The pair of I-beams work together to support a movable series of steel rods which sit on two rolling v-track chassis, with tracks built into the tops of the I-beams. This unique design allows the shade-providing rods to be moved back-and-forth throughout the day, in order to provide shade where you need it most as the Sun moves overhead. With straight lines, natural materials, and a flood of lights, whites and neutrals, this Modern masterpiece makes for an irresistible at-home resort, quietly nestled in an otherwise unassuming neigborhood just North of Dallas.
