Gleis 21

The Gleis 21 residential project would like to realize the dream of a “different” type of living and is actively supported by all residents through their own efforts and human commitment. The appreciation that the members experience in the community is the driving force behind giving other people the chance to participate in a good life. The group is supported by the meaningful conception of the building which promotes community and creates a new feeling of togetherness.

The wood-concrete hybrid construction enables communal and affordable life in the city in a central location. By sharing the infrastructure and sharing space, we combine high efficiency with comfort for all residents of the house. In addition to the private living space, extensive communal areas offer space for common and individual use: from the communal kitchen to the library and sauna on the top floor to the workshop, studio and fitness room in the basement.

For the group, as a residential project on Gleis 21, “setting the course together” means building on sustainable living, relying on social encounters and living solidarity both internally and externally. They want to live communal instead of anonymous urbanity, in short: bring the village into the city. The sociocratically organized Gleis 21 residential project is actively designed by the approximately 45 full-age and 25 underage residents themselves.
