This project was conceived by Imagineer Productions and represents the West Midlands as part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad. One of twelve regional projects, Godiva Awakes is a community-based venture involving hundreds of local people which introduces drama, music, dance and sculpture as part of the Olympic celebrations. Make were invited to design a permanent sculpture which would represent the legacy of Lady Godiva's act of selflessness.

The house, symbolically representing Godiva's home, will be located in the heart of Coventry and become a potent symbol of the city's participation in the Olympic games.The sculpture is clad in stainless steel, with two glazed gable end walls. One of the seven metre high glass walls tells the story of Godiva and her naked journey through the streets of Coventry to release the people from the burden of her husband's taxes. Her act pays tribute to brave women across the world and parallels the Olympic principles of fair play, respect, courage and strength. Eight back-lit stained glass windows conceived by artist Frans Wesselman illustrate Coventry's history and are set into the stainless steel facade.

The interior of the house represents Lady Godiva's bed chamber; chain mail curtains hang from the apex in sensuous curves, representing her contrasting qualities of strength and femininity. This inner sanctuary can be observed by looking through small apertures, mimicking the famous myth of Peeping Tom and allowing the viewer to physically engage with the artwork.A large marionette of Godiva will journey to London in time for the Olympic opening ceremony, powered by 50 cyclists on a structure called the Cyclopaedia. After the Olympics, Godiva will return to Coventry to inhabit her house, until called upon to re-establish her ambassadorial duties.
