This project redefines a 30-year-old house in the Marzdaran area of Tehran, originally home to a family of six. The building also included a corner grocery store that served as the family’s primary source of income. With each family member eventually becoming a homeowner, the project was developed under a joint venture agreement, resulting in a new five-story structure with two residential units on each floor, while retaining the commercial space.  

To minimize interference between the commercial space and the residents’ living areas, access to the commercial unit was relocated to the northern alley, with the storefront also designed to face this side. This approach ensured that the shop’s visual and functional impact on the building’s overall façade and form remained minimal.  

The façade design aims for simplicity while creating dynamic interaction between the living spaces and the exterior through negative spaces and semi-open areas. Green and semi-open spaces integrated into the design not only introduce greenery into daily life but also enhance the visual appeal of both the interior spaces and the urban landscape.  

A continuous stone shell was designed to unify the north and south façades with the interior. Materials were selected to provide a neutral base, harmonizing with the surrounding buildings and allowing the greenery to stand out.  

In the balconies, controlled use of wood adds warmth and a homely feel to the structure. Additionally, the simplicity and cohesion of the façade were achieved by minimizing the number of materials, reducing the glass and window surfaces where possible, and creating an optimal setting for green walls to take center stage.
