Gym studio Pilates Art

KURZ architects as Architects

Pilates Art, located in Prague-Klánovice, is a specialized gym studio focused on the Pilates method. It is a place where you can train on a perfectly thought-out and elegant Pilates machines. To the owners it was imporant to create more than just a gym filled with people. As such during the design process we aimed at creating a space fostering quality of the exercise and at the same time supporting a cultural environment in which both body and the soul would feel good. The studio is divided into several basic zones, which form a compact and functional unit together. The very center of the studio is a relaxation and community zone designed for the opportunity to share impressions with others over coffee or tea, or just to feel the reverberations of the exercise.

The interior of the studio is inspired by Japanese sobriety, works mainly with natural materials, emphasizes airiness, lightness, overall sophistication and clever details. The main material is waxed pine plywood and durable acoustic curtains, which serve for a simple yet effective division of the entire studio into individual zones. We completed the interior with black details, ceramic mosaic and colorful floor coverings that deliberately contrasts with the prevailing sobriety of the studio. Within the budget, we also designed simple luminaires made of Japanese paper (washi). Thanks to its interesting, almost earthy textures, and unique quality, ductility and excellent durability, this paper has long been recognized as an ideal material for luminaires that emit a pleasant soft translucent light.
