Hartley Pavliska Residence

The Hartley Pavliska Residence is located on a corner lot in Hillsboro Village, a vibrant older neighborhood near Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. The owners of the project wanted a modern residence with the major spaces (Living, Dining and Kitchen) in one open volume and a ground level private courtyard for entertaining. The master bedroom suite is located on the second floor and opens out on to a large paved outdoor terrace. The upper roof is also paved and provides an outdoor entertainment space with a panoramic view of the city. The massing scheme for the house positions the single story volume containing the living and dining spaces on Natchez Trace (the primary street elevation). The higher volume, containing bedrooms and private spaces forms the edge of the ground floor courtyard along Acklen Street (the secondary street). A blue sandstone wall defines the courtyard space and reinforces the street facade. The materials for the 3200 square foot house include a concrete stucco exterior, Sandstone walls, aluminum clad German Pine windows and architect designed Wenge cabinets.
