For the new headquarters of Fugro in Nootdorp, QbiQ supplied and installed a wide range of partition wall systems. The project includes both glass and solid wall systems, featuring dedicated solutions for acoustics, transparency, safety and smoke control. The result is a modern, open working environment in which privacy, comfort and safety come together seamlessly.

Transparent meeting rooms and workspace partitions

The meeting rooms and partitions between workspaces were created using the iQ Structural, QbiQ’s double-glazed partition wall system. These walls are fitted with acoustic interlayers to ensure optimal sound insulation, guaranteeing focus and privacy throughout the building. The slim profiles and high level of transparency contribute to the interior’s open and light appearance.

Fall-protection glass in the atrium
On the upper floors, glass partitions were also selected that visually match the iQ Structural system. Here, however, the iQ PROTECT Safe was applied—a partition wall with fall-protection glass. This solution provides enhanced safety without compromising aesthetics: the walls are virtually indistinguishable from the standard glass version and feature the same subtle 33 mm profile height.

Smoke-resistant solutions for maximum safety
To create safe escape routes, QbiQ supplied the iQ PROTECT Smoke S200. These smoke-resistant glass partition walls meet the S200 classification and can be seamlessly combined with other QbiQ wall systems. This ensures a consistent and safe solution throughout the entire building.

Solid partition walls with high acoustic performance
In addition to transparent walls, QbiQ also installed solid wall systems: the iQ PRO Steel. This robust solution delivers excellent acoustic performance through the use of double plasterboard on both sides, finished with high-quality steel panels. The panels are available in any desired RAL colour, allowing them to be perfectly aligned with the interior concept.

Fugro, a global leader in geo-data, collects and analyses information about the Earth and the built environment. For its international headquarters in Nootdorp, cepezed designed a future-proof and exceptionally sustainable workplace that embodies the company’s identity and ambitions. Together with the previously completed Fugro TechCenter and the new parking structure, the headquarters forms a coherent campus connected by a climate-adaptive and biodiverse landscape.

The building combines a high degree of flexibility with a strong relationship between people, architecture and nature. Office and meeting facilities are organised across three floors, while the ground floor accommodates a generous reception area, a visible laboratory and a restaurant with outdoor terrace. Transparency, collaboration and knowledge exchange are central to the design.

demountable and future-proof
The headquarters consists of four wings organised around a long central axis intersected by a shorter transverse axis. The main axis connects the building to the wider campus, while the transverse axis forms an informal meeting area featuring, among other elements, a stepped seating staircase. The design anticipates change: future expansion can take place along the garden side or through the addition of a separate building within the landscape. At the same time, the four wings can be used or leased independently should spatial requirements evolve.

Both the headquarters and the parking structure have been designed according to the principles of demountable construction. Materials and building components are assembled in a way that facilitates future adaptation, disassembly and reuse. Photovoltaic panels integrated into the roofs and sections of the façades contribute to the complex’s exceptionally low environmental impact. This comprehensive sustainability strategy resulted in a BREEAM Outstanding certification.

landscape as climate infrastructure
The landscape design draws inspiration from the characteristic strip landscape of the Groene Hart region and responds to the local ecology. The planting scheme is based on native species and enhances biodiversity and climate resilience. Swales collect rainwater and direct it, together with runoff from the roofs, to a shell bed beneath the parking structure where natural filtration takes place. This innovative water management system was developed by Fugro’s own hydrologists, making the landscape an integral part of the site’s technical infrastructure.

The grounds provide space for meeting, recreation and outdoor working. Paths of paving, gravel and boardwalks connect a series of outdoor destinations, including a meeting pavilion, a pétanque court and a pond that also functions as a water retention basin.

a biophilic working environment
The design places a strong emphasis on the relationship between building users and nature. Extensive glazing in the façades and roof structures provides abundant daylight and continuous visual connections to the gardens and roof terraces. The transverse axis is characterised by timber elements, planting and a variety of spaces for formal and informal interaction. Interior planting forms an integral part of the workplace and contributes to a healthy and attractive indoor environment.

At the heart of the building, an aerial bridge marks the intersection of the two axes. Material choices reinforce the connection between inside and outside, with natural stone paving in the interior continuing into finely brushed concrete in the landscape.

a distinctive campus identity
The architecture is defined by a rhythmic façade of vertical corten steel fins interspersed with glazing. The robust appearance reflects Fugro’s innovative and technology-driven character. The parking structure features an open timber façade that provides daylight penetration and natural ventilation. The warm tone of the timber creates a carefully balanced material palette together with the corten steel of the headquarters and the terracotta-coloured façade of the Fugro TechCenter.

By integrating architecture, landscape, water management and circular design into a single coherent concept, the new headquarters demonstrates how a workplace can be flexible, future-proof and exceptionally sustainable at the same time.
