The HNI Global Business Services Centre in Pune is designed as an integrated workplace that aligns brand, innovation, and operational performance within a single spatial system. Delivered by Space Matrix, the project addresses the challenge of creating a cohesive yet flexible environment for a multi functional global capability centre.
The design is structured around the concept of unboxing, where the workplace unfolds through a sequence of spatial layers. The arrival zone establishes this narrative through a refined material palette and a central exploded chair installation that symbolises deconstruction, iteration, and reinvention.
Spatial planning departs from conventional linear configurations. A distributed network of colour coded collaboration hubs is introduced across the floorplate, enabling fluid movement, cross team interaction, and dynamic workflows. These hubs function as key connectors within the workplace, supporting both formal and informal modes of engagement.
Brand integration is achieved through spatial translation. Zones inspired by HNI’s portfolio including Gunlocke, Allsteel, and HBF are embedded into the planning framework, aligning functional requirements with brand identity. This approach ensures that the workplace operates as a lived expression of the brand rather than a static representation.
Dedicated innovation spaces including a centrally positioned material library and an adjacent product testing lab are designed to support real time experimentation and collaboration. Their visibility reinforces the role of the GBSC as an active driver of innovation within the global organisation.
Material and architectural strategies prioritise adaptability and long term performance. Frameless glass partitions enhance transparency while maintaining acoustic control, and a multi angled mesh ceiling system enables future integration of services and technology. Modular planning allows the workspace to evolve in response to changing organisational needs.
The project demonstrates how workplace design can function as a strategic enabler, supporting innovation, enhancing talent engagement, and reinforcing the role of the GBSC as a core driver of enterprise growth.
