Holy Trinity

Holy Trinity, part of Barnsley BSF’s Wave 3, is the most recent built example of our continuing collaboration with Laing O’Rourke on their Design for Manufacture and Assembly solution. A simple pinwheel floor plan is extruded up two or three storeys according to the sloping landscape to unite three existing schools into a single new building. Its elevations are defined by successive, honed pre-cast concrete bays with large windows set behind a protruding concrete trim and shaded with vertical lime coloured fins. A central atrium forms the fulcrum and social hub of the school; it is through here that all pupils, staff and visiting members of the community pass when entering any of the building’s four radiating wings. The atrium connects to the Reflection Space – or chapel – which is expressed externally as a cantilevering cross-marked volume that signals both the school’s entrance and denomination.
