hOMe, a modern tiny house on wheels was designed and built entirely by the husband/wife team of Andrew and Gabriella Morrison. Built on a 28' x 8'6" trailer, hOMe provides a total of 317SF (including the lofts).
We were inspired to make the move to a tiny house when we realized that living in the most beautiful and lavish home that we had become slaves. The costs were so high that we had to work more than we wanted to which meant saying "no" to the kids more often than we were comfortable with. Plus, our family dynamic was taking a toll in this large house as we all disbanded and went to our separate corners in our day to day. The contact decreased and our communication suffered.
In designing hOMe, we challenged ourselves to create a tiny home abode that would suffer no compromises. We compiled a list of "must haves" before starting to design and they included: a full sized kitchen with standard appliances, a comfortable and functional set of stairs to the master loft, copious amounts of storage, ample head room in the lofts, a spacious bathroom with standard sink and shower, space for a home office for two, and a bright, modern and clean design aesthetic. We were clear that these were the components that we needed for a house to feel like a long term HOME.
Tiny houses offer the potential for viable, long term solutions to the debt and housing crises. They also offer the potential for people to break out of the consumer cycle, to lessen one's carbon footprint on the planet, to improve interpersonal relationships with family, to lessen one's ability to hide in the "busyness" of day to day life, and to create a life not ruled by financial pressures and stress. It's worked out wonderfully for us and we wouldn't trade it for anything.
