Unapologetically tasteful, modernly functional, and playfully eclectic; UrbanMistrii designs House for One
While many still shy away from saying “Table for one,” an independently living doctor approached UrbanMistrii with an atypical brief, boldly asking, “House for One, please!”
Located in Patparganj, North Delhi, a compact 3BHK apartment underwent an impressive 8-month transformation, guided by a clear vision. The owner, an articulate individual, sought a functional space that accommodated her fast-paced lifestyle and personal routine, while reflecting her refined taste and flair for eclectic interiors. Every detail of the thoughtfully crafted spatial plan was designed to create a personal sanctuary—subtle yet bold, striking a perfect balance between tasteful spaces, storage solutions, and nooks of comfort.

A striking blue door opens into the home, where Moroccan-tiled flooring in the foyer instantly creates a playful, eclectic vibe. Accommodating a modern lifestyle, practical elements like a custom bench, mirror, and hooks offer convenience, while a hidden storage door provides space for the frequent deliveries that arrive throughout the week. Adjacent to it, a perforated door conceals a neatly designed shoe cabinet, combining function with style to keep the space organised and uncluttered.

Extending seamlessly from the kitchen, an unconventional furniture arrangement defines the dining area, creating a versatile space perfect for both intimate solo meals and small gatherings, such as visits from her mother. The dining furniture set—comprising a bench, table, and chair—introduces a unique contemporary character to the space. Artworks from Hookahpani add a playful touch to the backdrop, enhancing the overall ambiance. A sleek, thoughtfully designed partition wall separates the dining area from the living room. The breakfast counter, mainly used for morning meals, also doubles as a lockable bar counter, ideal for unwinding in the evening.

Bathed in abundant natural light, the living room exudes a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere through its carefully chosen colour palette. It features a soothing blue sofa paired with warm-toned wooden furniture and accented with cane details, creating a harmonious blend of modern comfort and natural textures. Like icing on the cake, the room’s playful character is highlighted by five arched wall niches, which introduce a whimsical touch and add visual intrigue.

A glass door separates the living room from a spillover area that enhances its versatility. When opened, this additional space seamlessly extends the living area, making it ideal for larger gatherings during celebrations and social events. The design ensures the living room remains both cosy and adaptable, perfect for everyday relaxation and entertaining. The client particularly enjoys reading in the nooks of the living room, finding solace in its inviting corners when not immersed in her busy schedule.

The master bedroom serves as the heart of the home, dominated by the client’s favourite colour—mustard yellow. Additional to the typical, the layout extends generously to include a dressing area, private balcony, and study nook, all set against a calming palette of beige and serene browns, with vibrant yellow wall energising the space. The bed, with its eccentric form and use of natural materials, stands as a striking feature. A built-in floating bedside table seamlessly integrates into the design, keeping the look clean and minimalist. The mustard yellow continues into the attached bathroom, where Moroccan-patterned tiles add to the quirky and uplifts the mood.

The guest bedroom exudes a soft, understated elegance with its clean and sophisticated design. A soothing green palette sets a tranquil tone, complemented by a window bench that invites relaxation and makes the most of the natural light streaming in. Primarily reserved for the visiting mother, this serene retreat provides a peaceful space for comfort and rest.
“From the moment our client reached out to us, we knew this project was going to talk the language of colours. The process was as playful as the result; designing for a modern lifestyle, dipping in the hues of different moods, and concreting our ideas space by space for this project. It was almost like painting an abstract skyscape, where every stroke added depth and dimension to the overall masterpiece!” exclaims the founder Ritika Rakhiani.
Living the dream of many, the doctor now resides in a home that truly reflects her individuality. Balancing functionality with eclectic charm, House for One embodies her unapologetic spirit—bold, refined, and deeply personal.
