HOUSE OF UNO

The House of UNO is an outstanding project located in the new incoming ministries district Diamniadio, nearby Dakar, in Senegal.Initiated by the Senegalese government, the challenge consisted of gathering the 34 UN agencies scattered in Dakar in a new iconic and radiant building. Its shape reminds a water mill or a sun which rays evoke concentration but also radiation and influences. It appears as a white circular volume with seven radiant wings. The spatial conception leads to a strong identity: the combination of independence and collaboration for the agencies on the inside and the symbol of a powerful decision center in a brand-new urban landscape.

The surrounding landscape will assure the link between this not so common shape and the urban plan. By the uses of local material for grounds and vegetation, the garden will create the link between the local soil and the international sphere. In its conception, the construction and future running the House of UNO as a public building will promote exemplarity in terms of energy and accessibility, safety and security.

The spatial modulation of the program echoes with the shape: The official spaces will be situated in the very heart of the edifice : amphitheater and reception spaces will host international conferences, seminaries and debates. This central activity will be sustained by a ring of public and common spaces such as informatic support, consultation centers, meeting points, restauration areas and so on. Connected to the shared circle, the agencies, action forces of UN, will take place in the rays, as a symbol of spreading UNO’s values.
