The house is located on the south side of Lake Biel directly adjacent to a villa designed by Swiss architect Fritz Haller in the 1970’s. The breathtakingly beautiful and unobstructed views include the picturesque lake region, called the Seeland, the Jura graced with vineyards, and the surrounding Cantonal nature reserve. Both the neighboring villa and the dramatic natural surroundings were the main influences for the development of the project.
A free-flowing spatial concept permeates the house, down to the ground floor, developed with the spirit of the neighboring villa in mind and allowing for the immediate natural surroundings to become intertwined with the house.
The concept for the design of the interior space is based on that of a sailboat. Presenting the generous panoramic view on deck in contrast with the introverted and generally dimmer space below deck. For that reason the material and color concepts differ greatly on both levels. On the ground floor there is a monochrome white interior, which mutates its qualities with the ever-changing seasonal colors of the surrounding natural environment. The reflection of the windows and the high gloss, custom-made surfaces work like a Vexierbild, merging the interior with the exterior space. The bedroom décor features a dark, Mexican wood parquet floor, custom wood veneer carpentry, and anthracite drapes.
