INTERNI, now in its 20th year (1998-2018) has been organizing the events under the guidance of Gilda Bojardi, during the ‘FuoriSalone’ in Milan. A lot more than a design ground, a global appointment that brands Milan unique and extraordinary, il FuoriSalone is a socio-cultural experience, composed of hundreds of events and shows scattered all over the city. And INTERNI brings together a series of experimental and interactive installations of architecture and design, the results of collaboration between outstanding international designers and leading companies, institutions and startups.
The exhibition-event takes place at three locations: Università degli Studi di Milano (the former Ca’ Granda, 15th century), Orto Botanico di Brera (17th century), Audi City Lab at Corso Venezia 11 (the former Seminario Arcivescovile, 16th century), a laboratory of ideas and encounters on the relationship between human beings, technology and innovation.
2018’s theme House In Motion puts two areas of design deeply impacted by the evolution of lifestyles at the center of the research: residence and mobility. Two apparently contradictory concepts that the dynamics of today’s world have brought together, forming a single identity.
All installations are based on the collaboration between highly acclaimed international architects and designers and companies of reference; this year’s contributors are Ma Yansong- MAD Architects/ Audi City Lab, Mario Cucinella Architect / Eni gas e luce, Marlo Bellini Architect /Oak, Metalltech, Alexander Bellman-Gruppo C14 Architect /Samsung Electronics Italia, Aldo Cibic Architect / Abet Laminati, Sa,b, Dario Curatolo Architect /Regione Puglia, Lorenzo Damiani Architect / Ikea Italia Retail, Jacopo Foggini Designer / Ferragamo Parfums, Daniela Gerini Fashion Designer / Regione Umbria, Diego Grandi Architect / Garzia, Massimo Iosa Ghini Architect / Italcer Group, Francesco Isidori-Labics Architect / Elica, Pierro Lissoni – Lissoni Associati Architect / Dmeco Engineering, Peter Pichler Architect / DomusGaia, Davide Rampello Curator / Jiuqitang Cultural Industry Development Co., Michele Tarroni- Stanton Williams Architects / Focchi Group, Tabanlıoğlu Architects / Nurus and Filippo Taidelli Architect / Universal Selecta, Casalgrande Padana

The installation by Istanbul based office Tabanlioglu Architects points out to the question “where is home?” in this age of rapid and continuous change; with reference to psychoanalyst D.W. Winnicott “Home is Where We Start from”. The answer to the question “Where are you from?” indicates that almost no one physically stays in the origin and people accept a different place as “home”, either permanently or as guests. The frame of the installation embodies the limits of the “house”, creating a sense of control, where the semi-transparent walls gradually introduces into the outer environment. Tubes around the platform form the edges of the abstract house. Establishing a sense of border, compilation of the rods grant an optical illusion beside depth and openness. Founding a welcoming interior like a mother’s breasts, with the soft seating units, beyond the imaginary walls of the house, the structure becomes a shelter; developing self-interacts with the family and the larger society the “house”, with its simple form and minimalist design, ensures familiarity with compact neat details.
Melkan Gürsel, founding partner of Tabanlıoğlu Architects, will take place at the press conference at Università degli Studi di Milano – Monday 16 April, 14.30 (Aula Magna, Via Festa del Perdono 7) to answer the questions of international press.
