Located on the west bank of the Xiangjiang River, the Hunan Art Museum follows the design concept of a “vermilion seal on the shores of Xiangjiang River”, which combines the profound local culture of Hunan Province with traditional Chinese art culture. The horizontal texture of the building's vermilion color and the white ice-cracked finish are a smart collage of glazed terracotta. With changes in light and shadow, it creates a unique architectural ambience.

LOPO China had custom-made three types of glazed terracotta for the main façade of the building. These vermilion-colored products feature combed textures. The trapezoidal terracotta panels are installed horizontally, which constitutes the transverse texture on most part of the building facades.

The white block part of the façade at the top is adopted LOPO’s 30mm glazed white terracotta panel. To create a special effect of vertically folded, traditional Chinese calligraphy paper, the architects first calculated and made an overall arrangement of the entire terracotta façade by dividing various irregular polygons. Each part of the terracotta façade was accurately cut and arranged to render the irregular pattern in a skillful manner.
