Hygge, pronounced hyoo-guh -The Danish quality of “coziness and comfortable conviviality,” finds inroads in this urban apartment situated on the 32nd floor, right in the heart of maximum city, Mumbai.
As a Dane would in simple words explain the concept as socializing with loved ones at home, snuggling in warm clothes, feeling sheltered and safe, enjoying indulgent food and basking in soft lighting. This home is sculpted all around these ethos. Conscious to the fact that the residents are a young family with a toddler, the home is clutter free, minimalist and abundantly cozy. Dipped in palette of oodles of pastel with sprinkling of teakwood, the home exudes vibes of being deeply enjoyable and rejuvenating.
The client's brief revolved around creating a home that was vibrant and far from mundane. Their desire was for a lively living environment that would counteract the routine and monotonous, making them feel energized upon returning home from work. This was particularly crucial given their family dynamic, which included a growing toddler who required sensory stimulation through colors and textures in the surroundings. The goal was to infuse the living space with a spark, extending beyond the typical practice of reserving bold colors solely for children's rooms.
Rather than confining bold colors to specific rooms, the intention was to incorporate these hues throughout the house, including the living room, where the family would spend a significant amount of time. With an eye towards the future, as their child would continue to grow within these walls, the house's design was envisioned to be relevant and engaging for the next decade.
The residence, situated in Lodha ncp, presented a unique challenge. The confined nature of Mumbai buildings necessitated innovative solutions to amplify the sense of space. Therefore, the entire project centered on experimentation with layout and color, seamlessly merging bold shades with functional design. The primary objective was to ensure that even with limited space, the family's toddler would have ample room to explore and play, going beyond the constraints of a single small room.
Considering the family's specific requirements- the layout was reconfigured. Originally planned with three bedrooms and four bathrooms, it was transformed into a more efficient arrangement of two bedrooms and two bathrooms. This strategic reallocation allowed for more open spaces, designed to facilitate playfulness and interaction throughout the house.
To further enhance the sense of openness, the living room and kitchen were integrated, promoting a seamless flow and maximizing available space. The incorporation of a breakfast ledge added both functionality and visual appeal to this unified area.
During the project's inception, the focus extensively revolved around selecting suitable colors. The design team commenced by experimenting with various color options through 3D models. The primary objective was to identify a bold color scheme that delivered visual impact without overwhelming the senses. The intention was to strike a balance between vibrancy and comfort.
In the context of color selection, the designers opted for a slightly subdued green and a vibrant blue. This choice was guided by the principle of avoiding two overly bright or two excessively dull colors. The strategy involved incorporating one bright and one muted shade to ensure a dynamic yet soothing ambiance. To harmonize the color palette, they strategically integrated grey tones. Grey, serving as a neutral backdrop, possesses the versatility to complement any hue while moderating visual intensity. The decision to abstain from an all-white surface was driven by the aim to manage contrast effectively.
The house has a carpet area of 1450 sqft. Considering the family's specific requirements- the layout was reconfigured.
