(Introduction)
At first glance the new IMC headquarter appears approachable and inviting to public with a grand plaza leading perception into the state-of-the-art auto museum where guests enjoy a tour during visiting the head office. The new headquarter is derived in the middle area of Bangkok’s business district devoting itself partially as an open space for the town.
(Overall)
The 9,000-square-meter building stands in a juxtaposition to serene array of the off-form concrete façade on the 5-storey office portion, in contrast with, corten steel wrapping around the museum event portion. Designer brings automobile curve outline into a façade pattern enhanced dynamic expose. 2 portions are bridged by an open space covered with glass canopy.
(Function)
The master plan for IMC headquarter contains a one-storey elevated podium for parking. Parts of museum functions are on the museum building which contain the museum café on the 1st floor and event area on 2nd and 3rd floor while the office portion houses the museum exhibition on the first floor together with a photoshoot studio, library and reception desk. Plaza-level arcades links to museum café and museum exhibition and be a part of museum function as an outdoor exhibition. The museum exhibition plays a roll of a central atrium which brings daylight to interior at the heart of the office from the 2nd floor to the 5th floor. In accordance with “multi-space” office concept, the designers arranged the office floors with flexible, open-plan work spaces and glass “private rooms”. Workspaces have a direct visible connection to the outside, and a minimum of suspended ceilings create a feeling of space. The living quarter sits on the 6th floor with a master bedroom, 2 bedrooms, living rooms and meeting rooms.
(Feature)
Air flows from bottom to top in a hybrid system of natural and artificial ventilation. An intake in a nearly garden draws fresh air underground, where it is either cooled or heated; it circulates through the building up to the folded-construction concrete slab roof, which opens over the atrium to north-facing skylights.
