Located within the iconic Pyramid of Tirana, the Innovation Hub is conceived as a dynamic co-working environment that reflects the transformation of one of the city’s most symbolic structures into a contemporary center for technology, creativity, and community. The project contributes to the broader vision of repositioning Tirana as a regional hub for innovation and digital culture, where architecture plays an active role in shaping new forms of collaboration and exchange.
The intervention reinterprets the interior as an open and flexible landscape, designed to support a diverse community of young professionals, startups, and creative thinkers. Rather than imposing rigid spatial hierarchies, the project introduces a fluid system of interconnected zones that encourage movement, interaction, and spontaneous encounters. The space operates as a platform both physical and social, where ideas can evolve through shared experience.
A key design strategy is the use of color and spatial differentiation to define functional clusters within the open plan. Vibrant, color-coded areas establish identity and orientation while fostering a playful and energetic atmosphere. These zones accommodate a range of activities, from focused individual work to collaborative sessions, informal meetings, and public events, allowing the environment to continuously adapt to changing needs.
Materiality plays an essential role in expressing the concept of innovation through authenticity. Existing structural and technical elements such as exposed ducts, raw surfaces, and visible layers are intentionally revealed, embracing the unfinished aesthetic as a design language. This approach not only reflects the experimental nature of the users but also reinforces a sense of transparency and honesty within the space.
Lighting is treated as both a functional and atmospheric tool. Carefully integrated artificial illumination enhances the spatial rhythm while highlighting key areas and circulation paths. Combined with the natural light filtering through the Pyramid’s renewed structure, the result is a vibrant interior environment that shifts throughout the day, supporting productivity and well-being.
Furniture and spatial elements are designed to be flexible and modular, enabling users to reconfigure the space according to their needs. This adaptability ensures that the Innovation Hub remains responsive over time, capable of hosting a wide spectrum of programs, from daily work routines to workshops, exhibitions, and community-driven events.
Beyond its physical attributes, the project is rooted in the idea of community. It acts as a catalyst for the local ecosystem, bringing together talent from different disciplines and encouraging knowledge exchange. By creating an inclusive and accessible environment, the Innovation Hub supports the growth of a new generation of innovators within Tirana.
