Due to soil contamination and high groundwater levels at Lake Constance, it was not possible to build an underground car park under the forecourt of the Inselhalle, where the world's Nobel Prize winners meet each year for a conference. The required parking spaces are therefore housed in a parking garage located directly on the lakeshore, which thus becomes an integral part of a spatial reorganization: Like the island hall opposite it and its expansion, it faces a new city square. Furthermore, it serves as a contact point for boat docks and as a fire service base. The structural framing of the square and thus the overall effect of the ensemble is exaggerated in terms of design, as the island hall and the parking garage are given building envelopes that are related to the material but at the same time vary in function. Irregularly folded and additionally perforated metal panels in copper tones transform the facades into a flickering play of light and shadow.
