Kerala’s essence, softened by nature’s breath

The space is designed for the family of three- a working couple and their kid, being a native south Indian; they wanted the design inspired by the timeless heritage and beauty of Kerala. Hence, the palette is rooted in nature with earthy browns and greens. The mood board captures the essence of warm and earthy tones. Kerala’s traditional architectural elements also play a vital role in keeping the integrity of whole concept.

From the entrance foyer itself, the tone for the entire interior is set. Square wooden rafters on the ceiling enhance the architectural character, inspired by Kerala’s vernacular style. Incorporating a two-tone paint scheme with stucco wall adds character and visual interest to the foyer. The polished wooden border between stucco and earthy green colour differentiates as well as merges the colour and textures of the wall. The earthy green shade and beige with stucco texture on wall is chosen very thoughtfully considering the vernacular essence. Flooring in polished Kota completes the look. A wooden console with veneer finish, decorative carved wooden mirrors and brass artefacts are reflecting the concept details.

A well-lit living and dining area combines functionality with the charm of South Indian aesthetics. The space is adorned with earthy tones, wooden furniture and traditional decors. Furniture is customized according to the colour and material palette of the entire house. The sofa is made in wood with cane on side, and stands on customized wooden spherical legs. The wooden centre table is customized as well. While using cane and wood for the furniture, the cane shutters have glass in front. It is detailed in such way that maintenance becomes easier. The customized artwork depicts the tradition and culture divineness of Kerala. Vibrant colours and geometric patterns used in the artwork accentuate the wall by breaking the subtleness. The terracotta cladding perfectly combines the living and dining space together.
