The Musashino Plateau stretches across western Tokyo. Several rivers flow across this plateau, forming river terraces over the course of many years. One of these rivers is the Jakuzure River. Today, the Jakuzure River has been channelized, and a greenway runs along its course. The project site is located on a hill along this greenway. The terrain surrounding the site features subtle and complex variations in elevation. We designed the project to harmonize with the site’s unique topography while also taking into account the relatively abundant green spaces and tranquil streetscape typical of a residential neighborhood so close to central Tokyo.

The exterior walls are painted white with silicate paint, which is resistant to weathering, while the windows, balconies, and other openings in the walls are painted a dark gray, emphasizing the depth of the openings as if holes had been cut directly into the wall. By meticulously aligning the horizontal lines of each floor and the positions of the windows, we have achieved a simple exterior design despite the variety of unit types. As you move along the approach that takes advantage of the elevation changes, you’ll experience a greenway and a tunnel connecting the south and west sides.

The white walls along the greenway and tunnel feature murals by artist Hiraku Suzuki. The silver-colored murals, which take on different expressions depending on the time of day, season, and weather, also reflect the surrounding greenery. These murals are works that condense the artist’s interpretation of the land’s memories and the image of the town.

There are a total of 10 units across 9 different types, offering a variety of options to accommodate residents’ diverse lifestyles. All units are designed to minimize hallways, with the entrance leading directly into a spacious living room. This creates a sense of openness where the view expands the moment you open the front door, making the layout ideal for hosting home parties. This floor plan is rare in Japan. With balconies offering views of soothing greenery and curved walls that cast gentle shadows, the design caters to the sensibilities of each individual resident.
