An interior design studio within Perkins Eastman, ForrestPerkins, led the remodel of La Bahia Hotel & Spa.
La Bahia is a landmark of Spanish Colonial Revival design fused with modern hospitality located on Santa Curz’s coastline. Spanning six stories and 155 rooms, the property pays homage to local heritage while delivering a contemporary, narrative-rich guest experience.
Aunt Elva, an imagined hostess, is at the heart of the concept behing La Bahia. Her worldly spirit, hospitality, and love of collected treasures animate every space. Interiors are representative of chapters of her life: textured plaster walls, patterned tiles, curated objects, and bold textiles create environments that feel intimate, layered, and alive.
Public spaces are also designed with a story in mind. The lobby features a grand fireplace, custom murals of Santa Cruz, and lighting inspired by Elva’s global finds, while the adjacent bar transforms from a coffee lounge during the day to a glamorous evening retreat. Dining venues echo that narrative: High Tide offers refined coastal dining with pier views, while Low Tide provides casual all-day energy, both connected through vibrant materials and warm wood tones.
Wellness and leisure are also represented in the design language. A full-service spa and ocean-facing pool deck flow into terraces and ballrooms detailed with ceruse wood, custom carpets, and modern lighting.
