La Petite in Florence expands to welcome an ever-growing audience, both during the day and at night, and opens new spaces for gatherings and good food.
La Petite opens in Florence in 2013, located close to piazza della Repubblica, in the historical centre of the city, between piazza Duomo and piazza della Signoria. The two young owners are brothers and aim to set up a space for locals. The studio DEFERRARI+MODESTI is in charge of the interior design project, that translates the modest dimensions of the club in a functional space, in which converge many creative and very recognizable features.
In 2021 La Petite extends its activities, by using new spaces adjacent to the existing club, that were previously occupied by another restaurant business of the same two owners. Once more, the design proposal for the new interiors is made by DEFERRARI+MODESTI, this time in collaboration with Filippo Mannucci Design, while the definitive and executive project, as well as the supervision of works, are developed only by the studio.
The project reuses the space next to the groundfloor of the existing club. The interior is wide and luminous, and is located on the corner of the building, so it offers two open sides with large door windows. The expansion allows to host new uses and clients, not only during the daytime but also at night.
The space is organized in four zones; one that hosts a large and cozy sofa for couples or groups, the others located next to the door windows and arranged as distinct lounges. The sofa works as a shiny device thanks to the mustard yellow fabric that covers it. Beside the sofa, there are four custom- made wooden tables, that are able to raise or lower the shelf depending on the uses and timing, for example to accomodate a meal during the day or a cocktail in the evening.
The three lounges are close to the door windows, which are designed to open on both sides in order to guarantee a full opening on the street. This allows to live the interior as equal to the outdoor space.
The new space regain some elements that were central to the original project, as the travertine cladding on the wall, a custom-made piece designed by the studio. It stands as a significant intervention in the space, and it is the result of a previous wide research around the theme of the spatial sculptures in arts and of the traditional florentine vestments.
As in the upper floor of the club, the project involves the use of vinyl carpets, that have been cut to mark and underline the three lounges.
The iron still plays an important role inside the space; from the profiles of
the travertine cladding to the structures of the tables and stools, while the smoked oak wood used for the support planes, stools and chairs creates a modern and warm atmosphere.
Two small tables are the core elements of every lounge. They are designed with support planes of distinct materials (travertine and oack) and their structures are made with iron rod. The tables are combined with different heights so they can be arranged for the uses of the day or during the atmosphere of the nightclub.
The lighting project is developed by Studio Massimo Iarussi, that design and create a series of diverse lighting scenarios, in relation to the various time slots and activities. The space is also equipped with wall lights, that replicate the model used on the upper level of the club.
