Modern Resort Living In an Urban Enclave - Lot 18

Mines Resort City is a famous lake resort which located south of federal district of Kuala Lumpur in Seri Kembangan. Over the years of development, this area has developed into premier bungalow lots, apartment buildings, shopping centres, hotels, business complexes and theme parks connected by an artificial canal. The premier bungalow lots in Vanda Precinct of Mines South Lake offer evocative tropical homes in a secured environment and landscaped walkways. A quality lifestyle home in this development is much sought after.

Houses designed for the tropics should address the contextual and cultural elements inherent in the region – the need for cross ventilation, shading from sun and rain, the flow of interior space to exterior spaces, the abundance of lighting and the opportunity to incorporate landscaping into the design. The main objective is to create a modern luxury resort home in an urban enclave.

The site measures about 9000 sq ft the required built up area of 10000 sq ft so as to justify the expensive land value in urban context. Nevertheless, the building footprint was kept to minimum and crafted with interlocking spaces along the building perimeters and offers good opportunities for soft and hard landscape incorporation.

Lot 18 is consisted of 3 storey luxury home with double volume living, dining, dry kitchen and rumpus room interlocked around the central pool area with water feature. Ample car park spaces are located next to the entrance and the services areas of wet kitchen, laundry and maid room are allocated at the rear portion. Full height large glazing and terraces form a permeable and remarkable view to the external pool landscape area. Sliding doors at dining opens up to the central pool area and form an important axis. The land boundary is landscaped by trees, scrubs and paver grass crete along the way driveway instead of constructing solid perimeter fencing. There are three bedrooms with central family hall on the first floor to overlook down to the landscape pool area whereas the 2 gym rooms are located on the second floor and opened to outdoor Jacuzzi and roof terrace. The spacious master suite with outdoor roof top sky garden occupied most of the second level captures the very essence of luxury and style in an extravagant way. All bedrooms are designed with different spacious toilet layouts with attached walk-in-closets.

Finishing materials carefully selected to create different senses visually and emotionally. Stone cladding on the external façade implies solidity when wrapped around northern wall of double volume living. External balinese crafting ornament and sand stone had been applied to enhance the modern tropical feel with its surrounding pool and landscape features. Other finishes are kept simple to minimize distraction to the overall concept – both in materials and colours for exterior and interior spaces. As for construction detail, concealed door hinges are adopted to simplify door detail.

Lighting concept is an integral design element that we had studied meticulously while applying to this house. The level of lighting manipulation expresses the quality of nightscape of the house. For the natural lighting, sun and wind path had been considered, to positioned windows to allow sufficient lighting and ventilation for all bedrooms whereas the artificial light trough is also provided at ceiling space along the perimeter of building to enliven the space with the reflected light. This feature is further enhanced along the perimeter of fixed glazing underneath the metal roof resulting in the roof appearing to be floating when the light glows in the dark.

The art of design of this house is not only rooted in the aesthetic form, but in the soul of the building, which creates its own unique self. During the daytime, the house is self defined with the surrounding pool, water fountains, trees & shrubs and pavilions. As night falls the internal spaces take over with the glowing reflected light against the dark straight and design forms of the building. “Design must come with a soul”.
