Loughman Bakker House

Neil Architecture as Architects

The Loughman Bakker house involved the renovation of an existing Californian Bungalow style house and a contemporary 2 storey addition adjoining the rear. The addition is guided by the principles of environmentally sustainable design, optimising orientation, shading and natural ventilation. The simple rectangular form of the extension is punctuated by deep set horizontal windows providing sun shading. Horizontality is further enhanced through the use of a sustainably sourced 3D timber cladding. The renovation brings warmth and light into the old dark house, revealing a new sense of spaciousness.
