Favre house

A Danish woman and a Valaisan, that's how this project came about.
The result of a collaboration with the brother of one of the owners, who is also an architect, the project is located in Mont-sur-Lausanne on a plot consisting of a slight slope facing south and linked to Lake Geneva. The volume takes place in the centre of the plot in order to preserve the surrounding vegetation.
The idea of the project lies in the desire to work with two materials: concrete and wood.

Concrete, a durable and robust material of which Switzerland has a long tradition, shows rigor and character when it is used, and wood, which is very representative of the construction from the Nordic countries, brings lightness and warmth to the object.

The quality of this project comes from the dialogue between its two very distinct materials that complement each other through their respective properties. On the outside, the façade is homogeneous in its architectural design, the floor is made of larch wood with a greyish finish. The ground floor is made of concrete poured on site, using the same lambourdes in the formwork giving the relief that converses with the wood.

This wood-concrete ratio is also present inside the house with an alternation between exposed concrete walls and wooden walls. An interplay of colours and textures is proposed for the interior in order to create a dialogue between the mineral side of the concrete and the warmth of the wood, referring to a Swiss-Danish mixture. The blades were also used in the manufacture of the shutters, which, when closed, express the minimalist image of a simple box.

The living spaces are located on the ground floor. The rooms are located on the first floor. The living room benefits from a double height with a fireplace that articulates the main space. Like any Norwegian house, it has a sauna on the first floor which after use thanks to its green terrace offers a relaxing area with a view of the lake.
This beautiful plot (1,913 m2) free of any construction has allowed the construction of an apartment for rent, in order to optimize the use of the built land.

From the design phase, this house has been focused on contributing to sustainable development and guarantees a concept for a low-energy building. An air-to-water heat pump provides the heat needed to heat the building and domestic hot water. Photovoltaic solar panels combined with the green roof and terrace significantly reduce the load. The distribution of heat at very low temperatures, cooling in summer, excellent thermal insulation, simple flow to ensure air quality and careful acoustic insulation between the two parts of the building offer comfort at all times and in all seasons.
