Located in Winnipeg, a city notorious for its extreme climate as well as a downtown in recovery from severe economic downturn, Manitoba Hydro Place is a major catalyst of urban revitalization. The form and massing directly respond to the climate while the scale revives the city’s former ‘Chicago-scale’ urban spirit. The design also visibly manifests Manitoba Hydro’s commitment to innovation in energy and carbon emission reduction achieving an unprecedented 65% energy savings by harnessing maximum passive solar, wind and geothermal energy. Designed and delivered through a formal Integrated Design Process (IDP), this building offers a new paradigm to lead us towards a carbon-neutral future in which the human experience is respected and prioritized.
