Concept Design : Viewing Deck & Rainforest, Mumbai

Biodiversity in architecture heralds a harmonious coexistence between the built environment and the natural world, fostering a sustainable and resilient urban landscape. Architects are increasingly embracing designs that integrate green spaces, vertical gardens, and wildlife-friendly structures, creating habitats for various plant and animal species. This not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of urban spaces but also contributes to the overall well-being of inhabitants. Biodiverse architecture goes beyond aesthetics; it serves as a testament to the interconnectedness of human-made structures and the environment.

By incorporating native vegetation and promoting ecological balance, architects play a pivotal role in mitigating the impact of urbanization on biodiversity, creating spaces that not only meet human needs but also support the broader web of life. In essence, biodiversity in architecture is a commitment to building a sustainable future where the man-made and natural worlds seamlessly coalesce.

The design intent for the Viewing Tower has been purely to promote biodiversity and the design concept summarized below focuses primarily on the 3 important areas in the tower:

·       Viewing Deck: Towering tall at 91 metres from the ground, it gives breathtaking views of the urban skyline and the natural scenery. It is like having a front-row seat to a city's grand spectacle offering amazing panorama of skyscrapers, bustling streets, and twinkling city lights. There is an attempt to furnish the deck with foliage and interesting furniture along with lighting patterns that are reminiscent of nature all around us. The flooring is primarily vitrified tiles in a variety of colours/patterns that have been explored to offer dynamism and visual appeal.

·       Rainforest: This awe-inspiring rainforest at 25 metres from the ground is nature's bustling, lively, dense, vibrant and full of life ecosystem characterized by an abundance of biodiversity. Plethora of towering trees forming a leafy canopy, exotic plants, and a cacophony of animal sounds are a delight to the eyes and the soul. These lush environments are crucial for the planet, playing a key role in regulating the Earth's climate and housing countless plant species. They are often called the "lungs of the Earth" because of its role in producing oxygen and absorbing carbon dioxide. It’s basically a harmonious, green celebration of life that can be experienced from a viewing deck running parallel internally that also houses a few kiosks offering Retail/F&B.

·       Entrance Lobby

The entrance lobby is finished with granite which is a great choice due to aesthetic as well as practical reasons. Granite is a durable and versatile natural stone that can enhance the overall look and feel of the space and it not only adds a touch of elegance but also offers durability and easy maintenance. It can withstand high foot traffic and is resistant to scratches and stains.
