The Sports Medical Center of the KNVB is the center where amateur soccer players, professional soccer players and referees can go for an expert sports medical examination, treatment and rehabilitation of a sports injury.
The center is on the KNVB-Campus. The sports hall was designed in the 1960s by architect Hugh Maaskant. The building, like several more pavilions by his hand located on the grounds, has monumental status.
The Sports Medical Center of the KNVB is highly regarded as a center of expertise. Because of the rapid developments and the ambition of the KNVB to keep it that way, it was decided to completely renovate the existing sports medical center and to adapt it to the high specialized requirements of such a center.
GAJ|VBW Architects, in collaboration with interior architect Ivonne Willemsen, created the design and took care of the structural elaboration. Besides the Sports Medical Center (phase 1), the project also consists of a top sports hall with associated facilities and facilities for a new soccer field adjacent to the Sports Medical Center.
The campus, located in forests near Zeist, is part of a main ecological structure. For this reason, GAJ|VBW Architects paid extra attention to the landscaping of the buildings and the layout of the Campus. During the renovation, the monumental sports hall received new cladding of horizontal corten steel "planks" or Sidings from ArcelorMittal Construction dep. Specials. They replace the original, wooden parts without violating the original design.
