On the vibrant Beneluxlaan in Utrecht, a new landmark is taking shape: Benelux901, a forward-thinking residential building that not only addresses the urgent housing demand but also makes a bold statement in sustainability and façade architecture.
Benelux901 will house 200 mid-rent apartments, consisting of two- and three-room units ranging from 53 to 84 m². In addition, the building includes approximately 600 m² of commercial space, a parking garage with 87 spaces, and 667 bicycle spots. Designed with comfort, accessibility, and livability in mind, these values are evident in every detail.
Façades That Speak
One of the most striking features of Benelux901 is its façade cladding, engineered and installed by WVH Gevelprojecten from Oirschot in close collaboration with ArcelorMittal Specials from Tiel and EuraMax Roermond. With over 5,500 m² of aluminum composite panels and around 1,500 m² of pre-painted aluminum façade profiles produced and delivered by ArcelorMittal Specials, the building boasts a modern, high-quality look that fits seamlessly into Utrecht’s urban context. The materials are not only aesthetically appealing but also sustainable and low-maintenance – a smart choice for the future.
EuraMax, a specialist in pre-painted aluminum, contributed base materials for both composite and single-skin applications used to fabricate custom façade profiles.
ArcelorMittal Specials from Tiel delivers bespoke elements that give the building its character. The combination of texture, color, and reflection creates a façade that interacts with light and the changing seasons. WVH Gevelprojecten ensures technical detailing and installation, with quality and precision at the forefront.
Sustainable Living in the Heart of the City
Benelux901 is more than just a residential building – it’s a model project for sustainable urban development. With an A+++ energy label, solar panels, an EQw system for collective heating and cooling, and a green retention roof that buffers water and promotes biodiversity, the building actively contributes to Utrecht’s climate goals.
Its location – at the corner of Beneluxlaan and Vasco da Gammalaan – offers residents excellent connectivity to the city center, public transport, and amenities. The project aligns perfectly with the 2019 Housing Vision and Utrecht’s Spatial Strategy, which emphasize affordable housing and healthy urbanization.
Building the Future Together
The success of Benelux901 is the result of close collaboration between market players such as Altera, VolkerWessels, Huys te Voorn Vastgoed, and of course WVH Gevelprojecten, EuraMax and ArcelorMittal Specials. This synergy has led to a building that not only meets today’s housing needs but is also ready for tomorrow’s challenges.
