Mehr Alborz University Office Building in the Science and Technology Park

The project began at the request of the client to modify the layout and overall structure of the building. This involved changing a pre-designed plan, which was similar to other buildings proposed by the Park, while we were required to design within the boundaries they had defined.

The design process focused on highlighting the unique identity of Mehr Alborz University as the first electronic and distance learning university in Iran. Unlike traditional education, which is based on physical presence in a learning space, modern education—enabled by internet access—can occur anywhere. In this context, the internet becomes the essential element connecting teacher and student. In response, the building’s main connecting element—the staircase—was conceived as a symbolic representation of this virtual connection. The staircase not only serves as the vertical link between floors but also acts as a joint between the service and office functions in the plan. It was designed in a color matching both the internet theme and the university's logo and was prominently featured on the façade.

This vertical element extended horizontally through the upper floors, encompassing interactive spaces such as conference halls and terraces, thereby enhancing the building’s communication network.

Two solid volumes created on either side of the staircase were covered with metal louvers, which can be moved as needed to allow light and ventilation into the interior. Inspired by the Persian verse "Seek independence through knowledge," a poetic detail was incorporated into the louvers. Perforations based on Morse code were etched into the iron sheets, embedding this message into the architectural fabric.
