In a small street in a lovely neighborhood of Rennes, this micro-architecture now stands in place of a dilapidated garage.
Conceived as a "folly", its complex, origami-like roof follows the rounded, segmented shape of the plot and rests on a nearly opaque, unified base that reveals nothing from the street.
The building enhances the relationship between the garden and the street, as well as between the interior spaces and the garden. It houses a parking area and a small office on the garden level, and a workshop/studio on the upper floor.
The entire structure, constrained by zoning regulations, showcases wood in its construction: the structure, the roof, the facades, and the cladding (chestnut shingles, Douglas fir plank siding and fencing, OSB panels), and it integrates delicately into this urban garden.
