Starting from an empty lot, in a neighbourhood without a defined identity, the result of a suburban context resulting from the absence of territorial policies for decades on the outskirts of Lisbon, it's like starting a process of metamorphosis, without harming the surroundings. We also know that our intervention will have an impact on the cohesion of the urban fabric, and the visual quality of this neighbourhood, and as such, we saw this responsibility as an opportunity to do things better and differently, always keeping in mind what we were asked to do: design a modern house that takes advantage of the landscape that characterizes this place. The new addition was added to create new living spaces while maintaining openness and connection to the existing garden. The design maintains a minimal foot print, shaping the indoor space in relation to the surrounding landscape. Casa Gotarrendura is developed within an ecological residential complex, surrounded by more than 1200 hectares of forest. The single-family house project is based on the premise of fully respecting the existing vegetation, making it part of the project and a crucial element throughout the entire house.
